Anime Festival Orlando 11 was a wild ride! A lot of fun was had this weekend! Thank you for attending our events! We've been resting the past few days and now it's time to get together again for some more fun!
This Sunday afternoon, we shall see the first Goro Miyazaki(the son of legend Hayao Miyazaki) film, Tales of Earthsea. Showtimes aren't up yet but we will probably meet at a local Regal Cinema between 12pm and 2pm. Check back this Friday for the final time!
The next Propeller Anime Club meeting will be on Sunday, August 22nd. We will be finishing Baccano! Since Gungrave has ended(with generally mixed feelings about the series) we shall start Black Lagoon! I'm trying to remember what the feature was supposed to be. We'll find out soon!
Also, since we've spent a lot of time on AFO, it's time to focus on the club and discuss our future! Very important! The time of the meeting will be at 1:00pm in FS3B-113 at Full Sail University! See you all there!

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting on Sunday, July 25th!
Next Propeller Anime Club will be on Sunday, July 25th! It will be held at Full Sail University in FS3B-113 at 3:00pm. We had some real fun learning about Super Robots last time and now we can get back to our regular scheduled programming!
We're finishing Gungrave! Will Beyond the Grave get his revenge on Bloody Harry once and for all!?
In Baccano! The events of 1930 and the Flying Pussyfoot draw closer together. But here is what will get you pumped: LADD RUSSO VERSUS THE RAIL TRACER! oh YEAH!
In Samurai 7, Kirara looks to recruit more samurai but the ones she has already received help from are framed for the murder of the Imperial Envoy! How will they get out of this one!?
Our feature showing this time will be rather relevant to upcoming events; since Tony Oliver and Tommy Yune are industry guests that will be appearing at Anime Festival Orlando, we will be showing a movie they starred in and directed respectively. Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles will be our showing this time!
Speaking of AFO, we'll talk about what's cool to do and see at the convention! It's very action packed this year!

Recap of yesterday's meeting! 6/21/10 edition!
We did it! After nearly two years, we watched an actual robot anime! All hail Shoji Kawamori!
News
- We had two new members show up! They are both in Film at Full Sail and we hope they'll keep coming out to meetings and hangouts!
- Speaking of hangouts, we are getting together with UCF's Anime Spot for bowling this Saturday at 1pm! It will be at Boardwalk Bowl on East Colonial Drive and Rouse Road. RSVP here.
- Over summer break, we'll have a super robot anime potluck for those staying in town! Details later.
- Don't forget about Kanpai, Anime! at Tatame's Lounge on June 29th!
Recap
- In Baccano!, we discovered that the Rail Tracer was a conductor on the train that has ties to the Gandor family. In the time jump after the train incident, he offers them his assassination services. He's brutal dude; that is for sure!
- Dallas and his thugs steal immortality elixir with their new found immortality only to get robbed by Isaac and Miria who mistake it for booze!
- Ladd Russo shoots a kid in the head, but doesn't know he's immortal. You don't piss off Ladd Russo!
- Ladd has an epic fight on the top of a train with the quiet girl in the black dress who is deadly with a knife!
- In Gungrave, Grave avenges his old friends and takes out Balladbird Lee.
- Bear Walken, who is also enhanced, brought a sword to a gun fight and dies pretty easily.
- In Samurai 7, a new Samurai is recruited who can catch arrows very easily. His name is Katayama Gorobei and, like Kambei, he was also in the Great War.
- Katsuhiro was trying to hold hands with Kirara~
- Ukyo, lusting for Kirara even more, sends Blonde samurai Kyuzo to take out Kambei. Kambei prefers for him to join the other but he would rather fight instead. He beats him in battle but lets Kambei live. Kambei wants Kyuzo to join even more.
- Fuzzy showed up because we had an anime about robots. We hadn't shown anything with that since 2008! Macross Plus had a lot of fun going on and had some beautiful animation!

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting Sunday, June 20th at 1:00pm!
The next Propeller Anime Club meeting will be on Sunday, June 20th at 1:00pm! The location will be FS3B-113 at Full Sail University. This will be an exciting meeting for sure!
In Gungrave, with Mika kidnapped by Balladbird Lee and Brandon's old friends from his horse race fixing days at Millenion murdered, you best believe that Beyond the Grave is furious! Not only that, Bunji wants to become a Superior after getting his face busted by Grave last meeting. More showdowns!
The identity of the feared Rail Tracer will be revealed in Baccano! We'll also learn more about the woman in fatigues and what happened when Isaac and Miria decided to rob the wrong mob family! Will the gun in Isaac's heart do them any good!?
We made it through the first couple episodes of Samurai 7 last time. It's pretty interesting so far. Apparently the bandits command mecha and large battleships as the pillage villages for their food. One village decides to send several members to the city to recruit samurai to defend the village. We've met the young Okamoto Katsuhiro, verteran warrior Shimada Kambei, and Kikuchiyo(who has been mechanized in the anime). Kirara was kidnapped by the androgynous Ukyo, but was saved by Shimada. So we'll see what happens next!
And without further ado, our special showing will be a most excellent one indeed. If you have not seen it, then you are in for a treat!

Recap of yesterday's meeting! 6/6/10 edition!
News
- A new anime night hosted by yours truly will be showing up at Tatame Lounge in Winter Park! It's called Kanpai, Anime! and it will take place on the last Tuesday of every month. The goal is to show an noteworthy anime film to an adult crowd while sake and tea is consumed. The first one will be on June 29th and the showing will be Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone!
- Our friend David M. had to leave Florida to return to his home state. The circumstances are unfortunate and we wish him the best! Stay in touch, dude!
- A new member came into club who is not a film student! Nothing against film students, but diversity in the club is a good thing!
- Nothing new on the future hangout with Anime Spot. They did have a meeting after ours so hopefully, they figured out what the want to do with us. I did mention that I suggest Boardwalk Bowl as an idea to them.
- Once Gungrave ends, members of the club want Black Lagoon to take it's place.
Mystery Feature
As you can tell from the top image, our mystery feature was indeed Studio Ghibli and Isao Takahata's Grave of the Fireflies, a World War II movie that shows the tragic and desperate struggle of two orphaned children as Japan fell to America. While sometimes light hearted, it is an overall depressing film that shows the harsh tragedies of war from the perspective of the losing side.
For that reason, Grave of the Fireflies is considered a taboo movie to show at anime clubs across the nation. Obviously I had to show it. The chances that some club members have never seen the movie and otherwise may not have been exposed to it made me feel obligated to do so. I also find this to be one of the most mature things that we could possibly show and I strongly feel that it would have been a good experience for some of the younger club members to watch this.
I wanted this showing to be a mystery because I didn't want to scare anyone off from attending the meeting. Nobody in club would intentionally go to feel sadness so it had to be a secret. This is a strong film and I am proud of everyone who watched it yesterday. For club regulars who were not there: imagine two hours where everyone was silent, not playing games, and focused intently on watching the film. It's a feat that sounds impossible, but that is the power this movie possesses.
This club doesn't have to be like other clubs that have plagued themselves with yaoi and moe fandom, or have regulated their showings to cheap thrill anime that offer instant gratification but are ultimately shallow. While we have shown those kind of works in the past(well, not the yaoi), it is definitely a positive that this club is sometimes able to watch anime that can be serious, thoughtful, and artistic.
With that being said, how did you all feel about watching this movie yesterday? Have you seen it before or was this your first time? I would like to know those things.

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting Sunday, June 6th at 1:00pm!
Next Propeller Anime Club meeting will be on Sunday, June 6th at 1:00pm! The location will be FS3B-113 at Full Sail University! Bring some friends who have never been to club! Those interested in checking things out: we're a fun bunch and we tend to show some good anime. Come and make new friends!
We'll be debuting Samurai 7, a high budget, Gonzo produced anime that is loosely based off of the legendary Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece Seven Samurai. More than half the club are film students so I assuming that you all have seen that film. It's in the Criterion Collection so there's no excuse! (Perhaps we'll show the original film someday just in case.)
Since Samurai 7 won second place in the last democratic vote, this may be the best thing to show right now.
I've read a little bit about the show. The seven samurai of the original film are sort of represented in the series and they are still hired to protect a village of farmers. But it is set in a steampunk setting this time and there is mecha and at some point the samurai are supposed to fight the Emperor. I'm actually really interested in seeing how this series goes.
We'll be watching Baccano! and Gungrave! In Baccano! we'll learn of the origin of the immortals and there will also be an episode starring the lovable and ridiculous robber couple Isacc and Miria! In Gungrave, people who have wronged Grave and those he's loved will probably get shot at by giant guns held in cool, over the top poses. Style points!
Our feature for this showing will be a secret! That's right! I'll bring in something that I bet some of you have never seen before. You won't even know what it is until it starts playing! It's a classic anime film and it is considered by many one of those movies that give legitimacy to anime as an art form. Those are your clues!
Have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend! See you all in June!

Recap of yesterday's meeting! 5/23/10 edition!
Yesterday evening was a club meeting of fun and interesting proportions! Our lineup changed a bit but things turned out well nonetheless.
News
Cyborg 009 was not brought in yesterday. Not only that, the second volume that one of our club members purchased with the first at MegaCon was empty when we open the case for the first time last meeting. So we've learned to open everything we buy at convention dealer room's immediately. Since many club members were vocal about seeing something else, we will. I took Cyborg 009 to the back and struck its pressure points and it's already dead.
Samurai 7, which won second place in the last democratic voting, will be shown in it's place starting next meeting. It sounds like an exciting series to watch!

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting Sunday, May 23rd at 5:00pm!
Our next meeting will be Sunday, May 23rd at 5:00pm on the campus of Full Sail University in FS3B-113! Fun times await! Now check this: I have an assignment for you all! Oh, yes!
Let's get some new members in our club! Zak and Steve have recruited a bunch of people from their film program and now more than half the current club membership consists of film students! We could expand a bit more!
So here's the deal: if you bring in a new anime fan to our club next meeting, then both you and that person shall get candy! Trust me, that's awesome! This gift also applies to anyone who's been too shy to show up to meetings. Now's your chance!
Just don't be some mentally defective fanboy/fangirl who goes absolutely nuts about their fandom(i.e. a Narutard).
Now as far as what we are showing. Our main feature will be the Sonic OVA that stars that lovable blue hedgehog. It's not Sonic X, just so you know. I haven't seen it yet but from what I read,Ninjas Dr.Robotnik has kidnapped the President(and his daughter) and we get see if Sonic is a bad enough dude to rescue them!
Also showing are more episodes of Cyborg 009, Gungrave, and Baccano! That's a whole lot of people shooting guns!
See you all on the 23rd!

Recap of yesterday's meeting! 5/9/10 edition!
We had a super fun time yesterday as guns were blazing in everything we watched at the meeting!
NEWS
And now for what we watched!
NEWS
- The head of Anime Spot, UCF's anime club, contacted me about the two clubs doing a hangout together in during their Summer term. Our club has a agreed and I have notified their leader! I'll get back to you on that!
- Panels for AFO that have been approved are starting to be posted on their website, including the Rebirth of Evangelion panel that our guys do so well!
- The Guin Saga has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks! Here's hoping for an awesome BluRay release!
- We talked a little bit about Bang Zoom! Entertainment's president Eric Sherman declaring "anime is going to die" and that their studio would stop dubbing anime in 2011 if DVD and BluRay sales did not pick up.
- Since then, he appeared on ANN's podcast and clarified what he meant. Basically, if sales don't improve, companies won't have money to pay for dub production and cease altogether.
- He also said that Bandai Entertainment(one of BZ's customers) is depending heavily on the success of the future Haruhi Suzumiya releases and "one other title."
- Bandai Entertainment responded saying that things are currently going fine, but if sales don't pick up then no more dubs.
And now for what we watched!

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting on Sunday, May 9th!
The next Propeller Anime Club meeting will be this Sunday, May 9th at 1:30pm! We will meet at Full Sail University in FS3B-113! Lots of anime fun as we show a classic and debut a new showing!
Our feature showing will be Gunsmith Cats! It's about hot, young chicks that are good with guns, fast cars, and explosives! You do not need to know any more than that.
We shall be debuting Cyborg 009, the winner of last meetings democratic anime battle! It's a short(as in only a small percentage of the show was released in the states) series about nine cyborgs that were once regular humans fighting for their freedom robbed from them by the Black Ghost organization. The orginal manga was created by the LEGENDARY Shotaro Ishinomori, Yeah!
We'll be continuing Gungrave, with Brandon Heat as a zombie and Harry Macdowell has successfully staged his coup to overtake Millenion. Is it time for revenge!?
And we shall be continuing Baccano!, which was extremely hilarious last meeting! All our main characters have been intoduced and get ready for what will be a bloody mess!

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting on Saturday, April 24th at 5:00 pm!
UPDATE: The next Propeller Anime Club meeting will now be Saturday, April 24th at 5:00pm in FS3B-113 at Full Sail University! This meeting will be one of the most exciting ever as we will be finishing series and starting a new one!
We will be finishing The Guin Saga! Oh man, do I love it when we complete a series! It's been a pretty epic journey and it's finally coming to a close! For those who missed the last meeting, a lot has happened, with many pieces falling into place. Will the Mongauli be defeated? Will Amnelis get to kill Naris? Which pedophile will hook up with Rinda - Istovan Spellsword or Aldo Naris? Will Guin discover his forgotten past? Will Suni show her true savage nature and go on a mass killing spree!? We shall find out next time!
We didn't get to show Gungrave last meeting but we hopefully will this time. Here's some copy pasta:
In Gungrave, it looks like Harry has been discovered as the real traitor to Millenion, after having many of its valueable members framed and killed. Now it's up to Brandon Heat to take him out! What will happen between these two longtime friends?
We'll be finishing up Rurouni Kenshin: Romantic Tales from the Meiji Era. Lots of killing will happen and introduced will be characters that will grow to be Kenshin's greatest villians later on in the main series! He still has one cut left to get to finish that trademark cross shaped scar on his cheek!
Last but not least, it's time to debut a new series!
One of the best series that helped end the last decade will be shown starting next meeting! It's Baccano! What's Baccano? It's about some gangstas who wanna be immortal by drinkin the finest 40's New York has ever seen. It takes place during the Great Depression in New York City, Chicago, and a train known as the Flying Pussyfoot and features an outrageous cast of criminals, thieves, murderers, gangsters, and even immortals! It's seriously great stuff!
Next meeting will be exciting and after we finish The Guin Saga, it will be time to use democracy to decide what we shall show in its place starting in May. It will be kinda like that one time we did it!

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting on Saturday, April 10th!
Man, it looks like we missed April Fools this year. I had some great ideas too! Unfortunately, things in convention land got busy.
This Sunday afternoon we are having a barbecue! It shall be awesome!
Our next club meeting will be on Saturday, April 10th at 1:15 pm in FS3B-113 at Full Sail University! Our main feature will be Cencoroll, a short 30 minute film nearly singlehandedly written, designed, directed, and animated by Atsuya Yuki. It's about a high school boy and his shapeshifting creature named Cenco that he controls with telepathy. Well, I am sure there's more to it than that but I haven't watched it yet!
We are six episodes away from finishing The Guin Saga(or is it The Naris Saga?)! We need to finish this over the next couple meetings so we can move on to something else. A revolt is supposed to happen in Crystal during the next episode and assassins are trying to kill Guin!
In Gungrave, it looks like Harry has been discovered as the real traitor to Millenion, after having many of its valueable members framed and killed. Now it's up to Brandon Heat to take him out! What will happen between these two longtime friends?
We have plenty of time left this meeting due to the length of Cencoroll. I was considering starting a new series but some of you will be out of town due to spring break and it'd suck for people to be lost if they missed opening episodes to a new series. So to fill in the space, I thought of something more digestable...

Recap of today's meeting! 3/27/10 edition!
Today was our first meeting after MegaCon which means we can finally shut up about it for a while. It's too bad we already started talking about Anime Festival Orlando, happening August 6th - 8th! A few people were new to the club today and we discovered that way more than half of the club are film students! Here's a rundown of what happened:
- Talked about what we liked and did not like at MegaCon and shared stories and videos.
- Discussed AFO. Panel submissions, artist alley, and of course Skies of Orlandia!
- We celebrated Brent and Roger's birthdays! If you see either anytime soon, wish them a happy birthday!
- Brandon Heat got all gussied up for Gungrave. Harry is trying to set up traitors while he himself is planning to pull a coup on Millenion.
- Lots of shooting and explosions, featuring Bunji Kugashira! He's straight out of a John Woo 80s flick!
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp-USKnPDbY&feature=player_embedded LoL
- Some people nobody liked died in The Guin Saga. Which should be called The Naris Saga because the 3 episodes we watched were all about him. Guin was probably in the whole thing for like 6 minutes max.
- Guin did cut through a assassin, cutting a tree in half. It was so exciting!
- Naris has been in drag quite a bit while Istovan has taken his own path to become a king. Is it me or did Rinda and Remus grow taller?
- We caught up on Dragonball Z: Abridged. They made filler fun!
- Lots of club members staying in town for spring break. This means barbeque and pool party next weekend! Details to come soon!
- Zak proposed we show Baccano! in the near future. I am behind this. Brent proposed something but I cannot remember what it was!
- Lastly, we showed Satoshi Kon's Paprika. People claimed to "get it." And or course everyone made fun of the fat dude, Tokita.
- Did that big climax remind anyone else of Ultraman?

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting on Saturday, March 27th at 4:00pm!
This Saturday, March 27th we will be meeting on the campus of Full Sail University to have fun and watch anime! Our feature showing will be Satoshi Kon's Paprika. You may recall that we watched Perfect Blue at the last club meeting. It was a great movie and the first that Satoshi Kon directed. Paprika is the most recent full-length film that he directed so we will be able to see how is abilities have evolved from 1998 to 2006.
We will also continue on with Gungrave and Guin Saga. Hopefully, we will finish Guin Saga in the next few meetings. It is getting pretty exciting as it appears someone may die soon! We will also share our experiences of MegaCon; good, bad, and just plain weird!
The meeting time will be at 4:00pm and hopefully room FS3B-113 will be available. I do know that finals will be taking place that day but hopefully we will have room free for us regardless.

We want your pictures and videos!
Hey everyone! We're been looking on the internet for pictures and videos of our MegaCon events. We know they exist because we saw you all with cameras at our events! A lot of you got our flyers and hopefully held on to them long enough to discover our website! Anyways, if you have any pictures or video taken of our event, we'd love to post them up!
You can either post links in the comments or you can e-mail them to me at ward.kent_at_gmail_dot_com. I will give you credit for your work if that is something you want!
Looks like our next meeting will be on Sunday, March 28th. We meet on the campus of Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. The time and location are both tentatively set for 1:00pm in room FS3B-113. We should have no problem getting that room but I'll have a more official post next week!
We're definitely showing Gungrave and The Guin Saga. Both are great series! We are almost halfway through Gungrave and 2/3s into Guin Saga. We normally show a movie since that is something that can be started and finished within a meeting and is great for anyone who can't be at every meeting or just started. I am open to suggestions and I recall hearing one for Satoshi Kon's Paprika. I am totally down for that and I am open to more ideas until this weekend is over.
You can either post links in the comments or you can e-mail them to me at ward.kent_at_gmail_dot_com. I will give you credit for your work if that is something you want!

We normally show a movie since that is something that can be started and finished within a meeting and is great for anyone who can't be at every meeting or just started. I am open to suggestions and I recall hearing one for Satoshi Kon's Paprika. I am totally down for that and I am open to more ideas until this weekend is over.

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting on Saturday, February 27th at 5:00 pm!
Our next meeting will be on Saturday, February 27th at 5:00 p.m. at Full Sail University in FS3B-112! We will be showing Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue! This was Satoshi's breakout movie success that was then followed by Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, and Paprika. Needless to say, Satoshi Kon is one of the more important anime directors!
Perfect Blue is about a Japanese pop idol who tries to break into acting, that has to deal with murder and danger following her everywhere from obsessive fans that do not appreciate her career change. We'll be showing this movie last as it is a little more graphic than what we usually show!
We'll start the meeting off with more clear discussions about what we should plan for as a club. There are fun things we have discussed doing like a beach trip, going to a Renaissance fair, or visiting Disney. Those things cost money so we may want to do a fundraiser. I've been presented with several ideas such as UGS 4, bake sale, and letting people pay to beat Waldo with padded weapons.
Last but not least, this will be the final regular meeting before MegaCon and I hope that all our ducks are in a row by then. We'll do one last final talk about it, but I suggest that you read the survival guide I wrote in order to prepare.
After the initial discussions of what we should do, Zak and some of the others want to show the Italian animated Titanic. I don't remember why but let's just get it out of the way!
And then we'll watch more Gungrave, Guin Saga, and finally Perfect Blue!

Recap of today's meeting! 2/13/10 edition!
Hey everyone! Meeting was awesome today! We had four new people show up and we watches some awesome stuff!
-We discussed Moe anime and banned it from the club.
-Emilio's Ghost in the Shell panel at MegaCon is now being sponsored by Manga Entertainment!
-Discussed fund raiser idea's now that our funds are empty! UGS and Bake Sale were discussed.
-Gungrave went from a regular mafia show to a mafia show with undead zombie soldiers who can't be shot to re-death.
-We watched three episodes of Gungrave featuring enemies named Blood War and Vulcan Cannon. This show is fucking win.
-Guin landed on a boulder, broke it in half, and then kicked a pirate into another boulder and it exploded!
-Istovan is a pedophile.
-The Prince of Crystal is a pimp.
-We watched Shinesman dubbed and lulz were constantly had. That OVA needs one more episode.
-Moss Green
-We tried to play Hanafuda. Or learn it. Work in progress!
-Used not-democracy to decide that we will watch Perfect Blue next time!
Good times! See you all in a couple weeks!

Next Propeller Anime Club meeting on Saturday, February 13th at 1:00 pm!
This Sunday, we shall be doing bowling at Aloma Bowl for Zak's birthday and we shall meet at Aloma Bowl at 1:30 pm! The next regular meeting we have will be on Saturday, February 13th at 1:00 pm at Full Sail University in FS3B-305. This is a slightly different room but in the same building. What is nice is that there are comfy couches outside the classroom if anyone wants to lounge.
We shall finally watch Special Duty Combat Shinesman! This is a 2-episode OVA that parodies sentai/tokusatsu teams such as the Japanese Power Rangers. We actually have it in our possession so awesomeness should occur!
We'll watch more Gungrave since we didn't get to last time along with Guin Saga.
Hopefully, if we are not strapped for time(meaning, no class in that room at 5:00 pm), we can delve into the greatness of Satoshi Kon, director of fine works such as Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers, Perfect Blue, and more! It is a travesty that our club has not watched any of his movies yet and there is nobody to blame for that except me. So I will try to make right on that this month.
If we don't have time, I have a special throwback for some of you new members. I don't think you have seen it yet. Mwahahahaha!
I will also teach you all about White Day and how the Japanese celebrate Valentines Day. In case some of you actually plan to.
See you all soon!

Club meeting this Sunday, January 24th at 1:30 p.m.
Hey guys!
I feel like a Slowbro because I just realized that I have not formally announced that there will be a club meeting this Sunday, January 24th. Well, there will be one at 1:30 p.m. in FS3B-113. We will show the final episode of There will be Brawl, some Guin Saga(for reals this time), Gungrave, and something democratic! Last meeting, we voted on what feature we would show this time. Special Duty Combat Unit Shinesman won the popular vote as Noah has that on order. If it shows up on time, we shall watch it! If not, I recall Summer Wars winning the runner-up vote. Sounds good to me, either way!
We really didn't get photos from Hard Knocks, but fun was had! Some of us got in some good rounds of laser tag and a lot of console and PC gaming was done as well. We all went to FOT one last time and we got some great group photos. I have posted them up on the FaceBook page and they will be on the blog eventually. I think I may have to look into a photo gallery site soon as we get more photos!
See you guys this Sunday!
